Formative & Pre-CompetitiveThe Club pathway provides access to sport through a formative methodology where students learn through play, develop physical and technical capabilities, and build confidence in a supportive environment. Open to all students regardless of skill level.

Formative & CompetitiveThe Selection pathway identifies students with advanced skills and competitive drive to represent GVS in official tournaments. Athletes undergo tryouts and commit to structured training regimens with the goal of excelling at regional, national, and international levels.

Official Competitive Sports
Six sports form the competitive backbone of GVS Athletics. Our teams train year-round and represent the school in MEP, national, and international tournaments.
Soccer
Futbol — Football Academy x Cubujuqui FCOur flagship sport operates in official partnership with Academia de Futbol Cubujuqui, bringing professional coaching methodology and structured development pathways to Golden Valley. Athletes train year-round in age-appropriate programs designed by licensed coaches — from foundational motor skills in early childhood to tactical sophistication in high school.

VoleibolA growing program with competitive teams for both genders. Formative clubs introduce younger students to the sport while our secondary selections compete in MEP regular and beach volleyball categories across multiple stages.
Track & Field
AtletismoSprint, distance, jumping, and throwing events across both cross-country and track disciplines. Our Little Athletics program develops the youngest runners, while primary and secondary teams compete across 6 events in MEP classification stages. A sport that builds individual excellence.
Swimming
NatacionA year-round program spanning four modalities: freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly. From aquatic stimulation in Montessori through competitive swimming with MEP participation, our pool-based programs develop water confidence, technique, and competitive performance at every stage.
Cheerleading
PorrismoDance, stunts, and team spirit taken to the competitive stage. GVS cheerleading squads compete at both national and international levels, including the prestigious Mundial de Porrismo (World Cheerleading Championship). Primary and secondary squads develop performance skills, teamwork, and athletic precision.
Extracurricular Sports Clubs
Over 16 extracurricular clubs give every student the chance to explore new sports, build fitness, and find their passion -- all following our formative Club methodology.
MEP Juegos Deportivos Estudiantiles
GVS participates in over 10 disciplines within Costa Rica's official national student games organized by the Ministry of Education (MEP). Athletes compete across 5 classification stages -- from regional to national finals -- with 20 to 24 matches per discipline per season.
